Containerised Cruise Missiles – A Threat to World Peace?

May 18th, 2010

A specialist Russian military armament company have taken containerisation to the absolutely extreme. Their claim is that their Club-K containerised Cruise Missile system, operating covertly within 40ft shipping containers, could help rebalance global military power.

The Club-K missile system installs up to four fully operational cruise missiles in, what would appear from the outside to be, a standard ISO 40ft shipping container. The 40ft shipping container not only allows the cruise missiles to be transported unseen, the containers also provide the platform as remote launching units.

Millions of shipping containers circulate the world. At any one moment shipping containers are sailing across all the world’s oceans and seas. Almost every nation has shipping containers in abundance throughout their internal transport networks. The Club-K missile system infiltrates the international network of shipping container movements to covertly transport operational cruise missiles to strategic locations for firing. Promotional material suggests that firing position could actually be within the target country itself dramatically reducing strike times.
