Can an artisan sandwich brand in a shipping container market revitalise a high street? Caerphilly thinks so.
The humble sandwich is getting a serious gourmet glow-up in Caerphilly — and it’s all thanks to Bonnie’s, the artisan sandwich brand launched at the heart of the town’s bold new shipping container market, Ffos Caerffili.
Led by culinary talent Rebecca Goad (affectionately known as Becci), Bonnie’s is putting focaccia first and slathering it with fresh, locally sourced fillings that scream “premium lunch with personality.” It’s not just about food — it’s a signal that Caerphilly’s high street is evolving, embracing street food flair, indie charm, and container-based retail in one delicious package.
The Story Behind Bonnie’s
Becci isn’t your average sandwich slinger. A professional chef and hospitality educator, she brings years of experience, creativity, and passion to the table. Bonnie’s, named with family inspiration and community spirit in mind, was born out of her desire to create honest, hearty, handmade food that bridges the gap between takeaway convenience and artisan quality.
Her launch at Caerphilly’s Food Festival was a hit, and now, nestled inside her converted container unit, she’s bringing something bold and beautiful to Ffos Caerffili’s line-up — proving once again that good things come in small (and steel) packages.
“I wanted to create food that’s fresh, filling, and full of flavour — the kind of sandwich that’s a bit of a hug in focaccia form,” says Becci.
What’s on the Menu?
Bonnie’s menu is short but punchy — every sandwich is built on pillowy, house-made focaccia, baked fresh with olive oil, sea salt, and herbs. Expect fillings like:
- Sticky Slow-Roast Pork & Apple Slaw
- Grilled Veg & Garlic Aioli
- Cajun Chicken & Chilli Jam
- Mozzarella, Pesto & Sundried Tomato (a veggie fan-favourite)
Everything’s prepped on site, ingredients are local where possible, and there are gluten-free and vegan options too. No dry bread rolls, no mystery meats — just beautifully constructed sandwiches with real character.
Why Ffos Caerffili Is Caerphilly’s New Crown Jewel
Ffos Caerffili, the shipping container-style market that’s now home to Bonnie’s, is a £multi-million regeneration initiative designed to re-energise the town centre. It includes:
- Over 20 container units repurposed as stalls, shops, and food outlets
- A landscaped courtyard with communal seating
- Regular live entertainment and community events
- A place where retail, street food, and indie enterprise collide
The development is helping to reclaim underutilised space while giving local entrepreneurs a low-risk platform to launch new ideas — all while drawing new footfall into the town.
A Sandwich… and a Scene
Bonnie’s is far from the only new face at Ffos Caerffili. The container park has recently welcomed:
- AG Indian Kitchen, bringing spice and street eats
- The Meadows Wildlife Park, offering animal-themed fun for families
- Multiple local artisan traders, from vintage clothes to handmade candles
It’s this blend of food, retail, and community that’s giving Caerphilly something new to shout about — a fresh, friendly, fiercely local destination that feels a world away from the usual identikit high street.
The Future of Bonnie’s
This is just the beginning for Bonnie’s. Becci plans to roll out seasonal menus, pop-up collaborations, and even sandwich-making workshops in the coming months.
With social media buzz already building, and glowing word-of-mouth from first-time visitors, it looks like Bonnie’s has all the right ingredients for long-term success.
“Bonnie’s brings a fresh take on artisan sandwiches to Ffos Caerffili, enriching our community’s culinary landscape with flavour, flair, and focaccia.”
Hungry for something new? Head down to Ffos Caerffili, grab a Bonnie’s sandwich, and explore a market bursting with indie spirit, community pride, and very, very good food.
