Delivery to Ground

For many shippers the single biggest problem associated with importing or exporting is how to safely and efficiently load or unload their product in to a shipping container. The solution could quite simply be, have the container lifted to the ground and safely loaded at ground level. Containerlift’s fleet of self-loading Steelbro (www.steelbro.com) vehicles will lift standard ISO shipping containers, 20ft, 30ft, 40ft and 45ft weighing up to 36,000kg, to and from the ground, other vehicles and rail wagons.
There are numerous advantages to loading or unloading your shipping container at ground level. This includes:

  • Load at your own pace – We can lift a shipping container on to the ground at your premises and leave the container with your for you to load at your leisure. Once the shipping container is full and ready for export one of our vehicles can return to your site, lift a fresh empty container to the ground and lift the loaded container onboard and deliver it to the quay for export. Loading the shipping container at your own pace, avoids disruption to your operations and the need to hire additional staff to assist with loading. The cargo can be packed into the container more efficiently and securely reducing the likelihood of damage during shipping.
  • No need for loading facilities – With a container delivered to the ground there is no need for costly ramps or loading dock-levelling facilities.
  • Avoid vehicle waiting charges – Vehicles kept waiting onsite can quickly accrue costly demurrage charges whilst being loaded or unloaded. Avoid these charges by having one of our vehicles deliver your shipping container on to the ground and leave it onsite at your premises. Give us a call once you have loaded it and it ready for export. We will return to collect it and can leave you with a fresh empty shipping container should you wish.
  • No restrictions – A facility that has three loading bays can handle three shipping containers and no more. With shipping containers delivered to the ground the only limitation is the amount of space available onsite.
  • Improved Health & Safety – Loading at ground level greatly reduces the risk of injury to personnel and the risk of damage to the freight. This is particularly important when handling heavy, awkward or valuable cargo. Read the Health & Safety Executive’s advice regarding falls from Vehicles in the work place.
  • Better space utilisation – export container loads are typically consolidated over a period of time in a holding area in preparation for the arrival of the vehicle carrying the shipping container. When the vehicle with the shipping container arrives onsite the load is transferred from the consolidation area in to the shipping container. Usually the loading must be carried out quickly to avoid paying additional charges for keeping the vehicle waiting. With your shipping container delivered on to the ground and left with you at your site the shipping container becomes the consolidation point saving precious space.
  • Security – A container sitting on a dropped out trailer is easily stolen. A container sitting on the ground is far more secure.
