A bizarre theft scheme was captured on CCTV in Peterborough, where a group of men used wheelie bins to empty out a shipping container. One of the culprits, Luke Nash (42), has since been sentenced. Among the other suspects is Jamie Graham (43), who had already been jailed for a related crime.
The Incident
- The theft took place on 18 August behind the Megadeals premises on Lincoln Road, Millfield.
- Nash and the group loaded stolen items from the container into a wheelie bin. Among the items were a hedge trimmer and a foldable tree saw, which were later stolen from outside a home in Werrington’s Lincoln Road.
- Nash was arrested on 2 September for these and other offences, including a theft from a Co-op in Loxley Centre and a burglary at Tesco in Staniland Way.
“Nash took advantage of an opportunity to steal and went to great lengths to try to get away with it. I am glad that we were able to identify and arrest him.”
— PC Colin Dyer, commenting on the case
Legal Outcome
- Nash pleaded guilty to the thefts and was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court.
- He must also pay £305 in compensation to the victim of the garden tools theft.
