Ever thought about parking a shipping container in your backyard for extra storage?
The City of Mission is toying with this idea and wants to hear your thoughts.
What’s the Deal?
On 19 February 2025, Mission’s city officials rolled out a survey, eager to gather public opinion on the potential use of shipping containers as storage solutions in residential areas. They’re curious about which neighbourhoods might welcome these steel giants, how many should be allowed per property, and, of course, how to keep them from becoming eyesores. The survey, consisting of 14 questions, is open until 9 March on engage.mission.ca.
Mayor’s Two Cents
Mayor Paul Horn acknowledges the mixed feelings swirling around this topic. “In some of our neighbourhoods, they will present a ready solution to storage needs, but in others, they will simply not be a good fit,” he notes. Horn emphasizes the importance of community input to shape policies that balance functionality with aesthetics.
Why Should You Care?
Love them or loathe them, shipping containers could soon be part of Mission’s residential landscape. This is your chance to voice your opinion and influence decisions that affect your community’s appearance and functionality.
