Job Type: Full-time HGV Driver, standard container work leading to full time Side Lifter Operator

Salary: ÂŁ34,000-ÂŁ50,000

Location: Southampton

Containerlift Services Ltd are a long-established business with strong values, we are currently recruiting for drivers in Southampton with a base of operations within Southampton docks.  We have a variety of roles on offer, depending on experience.

OOCL CONTRACT

The work is Monday to Friday. We are looking for reliable drivers who are flexible, prepared to work hard and are good communicators. Initially the role is Container work on our OOCL (suitable for drivers with minimal experience, 6 months preferable).

SPOT CONTRACT

Contracts for drivers with experience and a good ability to learn, progression to our core business can be achieved quickly. Initial induction training is carried out at our Southampton depot and takes 2/3 days depending on experience with container collection procedures in the UK.

The work is collecting Containers from various docks and container bases for delivery to customer sites in the UK. Then wait and load/unload on the customer bay and entails nights out in cab. Saturday work is available at an additional premium rate and there is an expectation to work some weekends.

CORE BUSINESS

If progression to our Core Side lifter business is achieved, you can expect to be rewarded with a salary ÂŁ50+k per year.

Employment on our Side lifter fleet is much harder work; hence the rewards are higher.  You will be required to deal directly with our small team of planners/dispatchers and directly with our customers. The work consists of collecting containers from various container bases and Ports for delivery to our customer base.

This is a tramping role, and drivers will be expected to overnight in the units for the week.  We have brand new 2024 plate units which have the latest equipment and technology.  There is also a requirement to work some Saturday’s, however this is very well rewarded.

A normal week will start on a Monday morning, returning to base on a Friday or Saturday. After full training you will be lifting ISO containers off the side of the trailer at different customer premises throughout UK – for the right candidate it is a very exciting role. Full training is given on the Side lifting trailers and this takes 4/5 days at our Southampton base.

After full training on our side lifter trailers a normal Monday to Friday week will see you take home with 4 nights out ÂŁ734, if Saturday work is carried out the take home money for the week is ÂŁ940 this is after tax and NI.

  • New HGV drivers joining the business receive a retention bonus after the qualifying period, adding a potential of up to 4% to the annual salary. Annual service bonus for all roles, from 1%-4% depending on years of service:
    • 1 year = 1%
      2 year = 2%
      3 year = 3%

Requirements

  • Experienced HGV class 1, C+E Drivers.
  • Containerlift also offer annually in house training for Driver CPC Mandatory Qualification to ensure that all their driver maintain their license after September 2024.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Health and safety conscious.
  • Experience with hydraulic equipment is an advantage.
