In 2022, a construction contract for seven LNG carriers, each with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, was awarded to a partnership between COSCO SHIPPING LNG Investment (Shanghai), a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Energy, and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).

These vessels were built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group specifically for QatarEnergy’s North Field Expansion Project (NFXP). Throughout the project, COSCO SHIPPING, MOL, and Hudong-Zhonghua collaborated closely to ensure the ships met the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

The first two ships are slated for delivery soon, marking the initial additions to NFXP’s new fleet.

Part of the fifth generation of Hudong-Zhonghua’s self-developed “Changheng series” LNG carriers, these vessels feature cutting-edge designs that offer superior hydrodynamic performance and versatility. Measuring 299 meters in length, 46.4 meters in width, and 26.25 meters in depth, they are constructed to meet the stringent technical standards set by QatarEnergy for operating the world’s largest LNG fleet.

Equipped with the latest double stern fin line technology and a range of low-carbon and digital features, the ships promise enhanced performance, reduced emissions, advanced automation, and increased cargo capacity.
